In the latest episode of Mann Ki Baat on 27th September 2020, Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi spoke about the art of storytelling. He mentioned that the history of stories is as ancient as the human civilization itself. ‘Where there is a soul, there is a story’.

As we are going to celebrate 75 years of independence, Prime Minister urged storytellers across the Nation to share stories of many inspiring events during the entire period of our enslavement. Especially, from 1857 to 1947, stories around every major or minor incident during this period can be introduced to our new generation.

“May this art of storytelling become stronger in the country, become more popularized and easier to imbibe - this is something we must all strive for”: PM Narendra Modi

Do you know of any inspiring event during the 1857-1947 freedom struggle that isn’t so well known? Maybe a long-forgotten hero who did not get as much prominence as he/she deserved? Maybe an incident which played a minor but important role in our struggle? A story you might have heard from a family elder, many years ago?

Tell us, we will feature your story for all Indians!

Share your story in the form of a video, audio clip, picture or essay.

just like thousands of people on that historic morning of August 15 – we’ll take you back in time. We’ll tell you the story of freedom through objects, photographs and archival material that have remained to tell the tale. We’ll begin with 1857 – and take you through the next 90 years. This isn’t the full story – there aren’t enough pages in the magazine to do justice to the Independence movement. But we bring you some highlights. And we urge you to spend the next week, until Independence

INDIA’S STRUGGLE FOR INDEPENDENCE India’s freedom struggle was influenced by religious sovereignty to a large extent, as groups from numerous faith traditions worked together for national independence. Indeed, religion could be considered a non-negotiable element in understanding India. The Hindu revival and reform movements of the 19th and early 20th centuries were intricately linked with the growth of Indian nationalism and the struggle for independence.

India’s struggle for independence was actively shaped, influenced and nurtured by Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Reverentially worshipped as Mahatma and respectfully adored as ‘Father of the Nation’ from 1920 to 1947 for a period of nearly three decades. During this momentous period of our history, Gandhi was undoubtedly the undisputed leader of millions of freedom loving Indians. He strode like an unrivalled colossus transforming the freedom movement to a broad-based mass movement by his policy

Bhupendranath Datta was born in Calcutta on 4th September 1880. He was the youngest of seven siblings, the eldest of whom was Narendranath, who later became Swami Vivekananda.

We should know an Invisible Revolutionary, Bhupendranath Datta: He dedicated his life’s work to the people of India, especially the working classes and the peasants. Recognition never once crossed his mind. Yet, when history remembers such a person only as the ‘brother of Swami Vivekananda’, it is unfortunate, for Bhupendranath Datta’s life was also extraordinary. He was a freedom fighter, a revolutionary, an intellectual and a scholar of considerable accomplishment.

Gandhiji's nonviolence movement, morchas etc. Many leaders were shot, some were hanged, some imprisoned and dealt with cruelty by Britishers. Massacre of Jallianwala Baugh would never by forgotten. Rani of Jhansi, Shivaji, Sambhaji also were against British rule. We were not united so we came under the rule of British. Great respect and salute to all known, unknown freedom fighters and their supporters due to whom today India is free country
