The e-Committee, Supreme Court of India envisages a judicial system that is more accessible, efficient, and equitable for every individual who engages with the justice delivery system. The right of access to justice, guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution encompasses the right to access live court proceedings.

To imbue greater transparency, inclusivity and foster access to justice, the e-Committee has undertaken the project of live streaming of court proceedings on priority. This will enable access to live court proceedings, including on matters of public interest to citizens, journalists, civil society, academicians, and law students on a real-time basis, which was not otherwise possible owing to geographical, logistical, or infrastructural issues.

The e-Committee, Supreme Court of India invites inputs, feedback, and suggestions on the Draft Model Rules for Live-Streaming and Recording of Court Proceedings.

Click here to read the Draft Model Rules for Live-Streaming and Recording of Court Proceedings.

The last date to receive Suggestions/Inputs is 30th June 2021.

Namaste, Great initiative indeed. This would bring up two prominent effects. Transparency and Accountability. Decision making would become more accountable. On flip side, this move should not further delay JUDGEMENTS. One aspect need to be addressed is NO RETROSPECTIVE ACTION on any Judges in case of any adverse incidental rulings. The recordings can also be leveraged for effectiveness of Judiciary and further directions for availability of right competency in courts.

1. For transparency and accountability in judicial proceedings, live streaming of court proceedings should be done, unless it is an in- camera proceeding. 2. Live proceedings without any restrictions will minimise the detrimental effects of propagation of distorted versions of judicial proceedings by vested interests through social media and newspapers. 3. The live proceedings should be telecast by means similar to that for Parliamentary proceedings.
