The ticketing system can be made more fancy more technology oriented and still more easy to use. But all those things are of no use if present demand and supply gap of ticket is not addressed. Presently all the tickets are booked in many (about 80% of trains) trains within minutes of opening of booking. Getting a railway ticket becomes even difficult than winning a lottery. Any idea to overcome this demand and supply gap.

The booking of general ticket should be made available online. Also on the respective website, information about seats left should be provided. This will help the people decide whether they want to go in the train, they can find if a train is going to be conjusted. Also the limit on general tickets is very necessary.

Electronic ticketing system can be based on the Delhi metro. No of tickets for general tickets should be limited. At least there should be a space for standing in general coach.

There should be facility to buy online ticket for general coaches too. Our ticket cheking system is very bad.I used to travel in reserveation & general coaches both.I have seen many times people travel with general ticket and TT do nothing coz they are corrupt. In general coaches TT never comes so many people travel without ticket. So there should be electronic ticket checking system. A machine should check ticket(tocken or some code) before entering the train.

Why ticketing should be done by Govt. Stop this totally. Give license to large number of people with commission. Take deposit from them and fix them responsibility. Within next twenty years there should not be manual ticketing counters. In stations they should be automatic and if it is manual, it should be agents.

IF bus tickets can be issued electronically in a moving bus, why not private agents with the machine (who are licensed)to issue tickets? There are hand held instruments. They have to be in uniform and easily identifiable.
