as we take cash card in malls similarly railway should sell minimum rs 50 card in which you can top up any amount.should bear 1 yr validity and can be revalidated by recharging it by rs. 10 or so.lost card may be cancelled on net or toll free thr pin.this way self ticket vending m/cs can also be set up.cards may be recharged on internet,mobile recharge counters.cash ticketing should be stopped completely to avoid pilferage in your system.

Why do we have so long queue to buy tickets. Can we simplify local tickets by issuing booklets which can be just stamped before visit so that people do not need to queue up and get change and buy tickets. Also platform tickets could be another thing to issue booklet and have one stamping machine at station to put time of 2 hrs validity. Also can we not allow parking lots to sell platform tickets that would reduce the hasstle

Indian Railways has been the backbone of the transportation in this country.But UNFORTUNATELY ,they have been the MOST CLOSED of all infra sectors( am speaking as an Infra professional).TNo accountability and tresistant to the private involvement .Whilst this ist well taken as regards operations,they need to split planning and operations into separate bodies SEPARATELY ACCOUNTABLE.Ticketing etc could also be farmed out to the private sector with proper IT safeguards like PASSPORT management

Introducing mobile apps for reserving a train ticket. Introduction of ATM for long route trains would save the time wasted in long queques. If there are large no of bookings introduction of extra carriages or an extra trains to avoid large waitings and extra tracks to accommodate these extra trains. Monitoring the blocking of tickets by the agents by tracking the bookings if in huge numbers.

Train ticketing system can be brought on par to Metro type token system. This would ensure that all the passengers have tickets, ticketless travelling would be reduced; but this would require that the design of the railway station itself would have to be changed so that no one enters the platform from the tracks or jumps from surrounding walls as most of our railways are 'at grade' or on ground level unlike the metro system which is either fully elevated or underground.

I usually travel by train a lot in a month, normally in unreserved general compartments. From my observation I have 2 recommendation:- 1) 2 seats at each end of a coach to be reserved for senior citizens in every general class compartments. 2) The number unreserved compartment in a superfast train should be minimum 5.

For local trains please introduce a card which we can top-up regularly.This card can be tapped before entering to the platform levels that is at concourse . It can be better done for Metros and local trains but railway stations has to be modified.
