Nearly a decade and half has passed since the National Policy for Empowerment of Women, 2001 was formulated. Since then significant strides in global technology and information systems have placed the Indian economy on a trajectory of higher growth impacting the general populace and women, in particular in unique and different ways. The discourse on women’s empowerment has been gradually evolving over the last few decades, wherein paradigm shifts have occurred –from seeing women as mere recipients of welfare benefits to mainstreaming gender concerns and engaging them in the development process of the country. These changes have brought forth fresh opportunities and possibilities for women’s empowerment while at the same time presenting new and emerging challenges which along with persisting socio-economic problems continue to hinder gender equality and holistic empowerment of women.

The policy envisions a society in which, women attain their full potential and are able to participate as equal partners in all spheres of life. It also emphasises the role of an effective framework to enable the process of developing policies, programmes and practices which will ensure equal rights and opportunities for women.

The broad objective of the policy is to create a conducive socio-cultural, economic and political environment to enable women enjoy de jure and de facto fundamental rights and realize their full potential.

Why forment such hatred against the men of this country. There is always umpteen favours shown to women. But the ghastly part is that leave men, why so much of bias is shown against the boys of this country.Doesn't tender boys require nutrition? Sops in the name of empowerment you do for political means, but not at the expense of others. Aren't you suggesting that everything be taken away from men and given to woman - and at the expense of tax paid by men. Such people to be shown the door.

Mrs.Gandhi, let me remind you that you are one of the central ministers, both men & women have voted for you.Don't use it as an opportunity to take out your hatred (if you have)against men.Empowerment is not something that women alone deserve. It should be for all those who are economically & socially backward, irrespective of gender.Empowering women and girls by partial sacrifice of men and boys will definitely create a war between both genders in future and destroy social peace & harmony.

why so much of hatred towards men? why it is always women, women and women only? why people forget even we men are part of Indian society? Till date whatever policies / laws are made it always favors women; there is no any policy for men / men child - why such discrimination? I think Indian government is more interested in throwing men out of Indian society. Please stop this discrimination, Indian society will again become a laughable stock in the eyes of other countries.

why is everything 4 women, why we don't have anything 4 mens.pl make policies 4 humans not 4 a particular gender.mens suffer more than women in every way.men's suicide is double from womens.99% risky work was done by mens on border, coal mines, mcd, electric department, army, farmer but we hv welfare ministry 4 womens only where is the ministry 4 mens? In the name of women empowerment we r totally ignoring the issues of mens like safety/welfare/policies n its dangerous 4 our society and culture.

The real empowerment of women is by misuse of laws by wives... by reading the policies it looks like it is about empowerment of wives and not women.only one suggestion please change the name to policy for empowerment of wives by misuse of law... this policy will encourage vote bank politics.

Make policies for working women so that they can have a better work life balance. And they need not to choose between their career and family. Make policies such that rate of leaving job by women decreases to NULL, because of their family situations, this is the long term solution for all the problems. If people find this thing happening they will automatically invest in girl education and their growth. #betiBachaoBetiPadhao, #NationalPolicyforEmpowermentofWomen
