recycling is still important to reduce the footprint of our waste stream. To sort through what can and can’t go in the bin, check out the number on the bottom of your containers. Most beverage and liquid cleaner bottles will be #1 (PET), which is commonly accepted by most curbside recycling companies

Boycott microbeads. Those little plastic scrubbers found in so many beauty products—facial scrubs, toothpaste, body washes—might look harmless, but their tiny size allows them to slip through water-treatment plants. Unfortunately, they also look just like food to some marine animals. Opt for products with natural exfoliants, like oatmeal or salt, instead.

We need to tackle the lifecycle of plastics, enable the deployment of alternatives and stop plastic pollution leaking into the environment. Refill and reuse systems must become far more prevalent. We must encourage the private sector to innovate, take responsibility and finance an end to plastic pollution.

To reduce plastic waste, I initiated a campaign in my school where we collected plastic bottles and made eco-bricks. We also conducted an awareness drive for students to switch to tiffins and water bottles that are not made of plastic. I believe that when youth take the lead, the change becomes faster and stronger!"Plastic doesn’t decompose for hundreds of years. It's harming our animals, oceans, and even our health. We must say no to plastic bags and yes to sustainable habits like carrying cloth bags, refusing plastic cutlery, and supporting plastic-free products. Let’s make this Earth cleaner for ourselves and future generations!"
