The District Administration Baghpat invites citizens, youth, innovators and institutions from across India on MyGov to share innovative and practical ideas to transform the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste Mahotsav on theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi”.

Building on the successful implementation of a Zero Waste model during Falguni Mahashivratri 2026 celebrations, this initiative aims to further strengthen sustainable practices and develop Baghpat as a model for green and responsible religious gatherings in India.

Aligned with the vision of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Swachh Bharat and sustainable tourism, the initiative promotes environmentally responsible behaviour, reduction of waste, resource efficiency and community participation in large public events.

What kind of ideas are we looking for?
1. Participants are encouraged to submit practical, scalable and innovative ideas in areas such as:
a. Waste management and zero waste systems
b. Plastic-free alternatives for melas and religious events
c. Eco-friendly materials and green infrastructure
d. Awareness campaigns and behavioural change strategies
e. Volunteer and youth engagement models
f. Use of technology (apps, QR-based services, monitoring systems, etc.)
g. Sustainable tourism and visitor management

How to participate?
1. Submit your idea in maximum 200–300 words
2. Focus on solutions that can be practically implemented on ground
3. You may include examples, models or case references

What will happen to your ideas?
Selected ideas will be reviewed by the District Administration and considered for implementation during the Shravani Mahashivratri Mela scheduled in second week of August 2026. Selected contributions may also be recognised as part of a district-led innovation initiative and documented as good practices.

This is an opportunity to contribute to building a national model of sustainable religious events, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen citizen participation in governance. Your ideas can help demonstrate how tradition, technology and sustainability can work together for a better future.

Function conducting members will form one mutually understanding committee constituents with local persons with police. The local persons Will be entrusted for separation of waste colored bins. Composed waste and decomposed, recycling waste to be collected separately in the field without fail.

Establish an on-site facility to convert discarded offerings and flowers into organic compost or hand-rolled incense (agarbatti)and Set up clearly marked drop-off zones for distinct waste categories (biodegradables, glass, plastic, and metals) with trained personnel to guide devotees.Mandate the use of biodegradable, compostable tableware—such as pattal (leaf plates) or bagasse—and strictly ban single-use plastics and thermocol.Set up large water dispensing stations to encourage pilgrims to refill their personal bottles instead of purchasing single-use plastic water bottles.

Title: Sacred Offerings to Sustainable Resources Objective To make Mahashivratri celebrations eco-friendly by reducing waste, eliminating plastic, and transforming temple offerings into useful resources. Idea Set up Sacred Collection Points across the temple premises where devotees can deposit flowers, garlands, and other biodegradable offerings. These materials will be converted into organic compost, seed balls, and eco-friendly products through local Self-Help Groups.
