During the Rashtriya Ekta Divas address on 31st October, on the occasion of birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi announced that the Government of India proposes to launch a new initiative called ‘EK Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’. The programme aims to give a boost to the existing cultural connect between different parts of the country and enhance interaction between people living in different states.

Conceptually, the idea is that each year one state should connect to any other state in India on a reciprocal basis. As the Prime Minister himself explained through an example in his speech, "Haryana as a state can decide to connect with Tamil Nadu for the year 2016 and the activities that Haryana state can undertake may include popularizing the rich heritage of Tamil Nadu in Haryana through song festivals, book festivals, literary events, food festivals, tours of people of Haryana to Tamil Nadu and vice versa. In the year 2017, Haryana would connect to any other state and in 2018 to another state and so on".

The knowledge of the culture, traditions and practices of different states will lead to an enhanced understanding and bonding between each other thereby strengthening the unity and and integrity of India. The full address of the portion of the Prime Minister's speech, where he announced the scheme, can be accessed here.

We believe that such an initiative to connect people-to-people should be implemented with inputs from the citizens of India.

With this view, MyGov introduces the ‘EK Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ contest. Citizens are invited to submit their ideas and suggestions on how the programme should be structured so as to encapsulate its true spirit in all its various dimensions and capture the diversity that characterises India.

While the citizens are free to submit their ideas in kernel format, they can also expand in detail on the themes and sub-themes. Citizens may consider the following general themes on which to base their ideas, while submitting their entries. These themes are only indicative and participants are free to include any other points they deem appropriate.

1. Identifying role of central government and state governments in implementing the programme
2. Identifying the manner in which the governments, civil society and private sector can work together.
3. Specifying the Use of modern communication tools, including social media.
4. Documentation of success stories.
5. Making 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' a people's movement rather than a government programme.

Participants are encouraged to submit original and innovative ideas. An idea, merely rich in detail but lacking originality, would not score more than a very innovative idea explained briefly. However, if a very innovative idea is also explained in detail, it will naturally score higher.

Participants may submit their entries as attached PDF documents while providing a summary of their proposals in the comment section.

The winners of the contest will be awarded a certificate by the Prime Minister, along with cash prizes as follows:

1. First Prize - Rs. 100,000/-
2. Second Prize - Rs. 75,000/-
3. Third Prize - Rs. 50,000/-

The last date for submission is 25th December, 2015.

#EKBharatShreshthaBharat Government can start naming schemes in different regional languages instead of English and Hindi. This will avoid differences and understand other languages and cultures. Eg. To understand the scheme "Swachh Barat" or "Clean India", it could be name in a different language.

I think there are lot of cultural activities and unifying activities can be shared between Haryana and TN towards #EKBharatShreshthaBharat and #RashtriyaEktaDivas. In TN we have lot of film festivals and award functions representing the south indian film industry so we can plan for some of the important award functions for south indian films to be hosted in Haryana where all VIPS from TN should come to Haryana and for function in TN people from Harya should be invited to attend

Culture is a double edged sword : being seen as a mark of identity but also seen as somewhat regressive. On a different note, people in different states get more familiar with each other when they compete with each other in a friendly manner. Hence, how about India Culture Olympics : a platform where different states come together to compete on dance, theatre, sculpture, traditional sports etc. in a fast 10 minute performance format positioned as a reality carnival with audience voting.

Making students the torch bearers of "Ek Bharat Sreshtha Bharat": Following international practice, student exchange programs can be organized. A group of students from State 1 visit a school/college in State 2 for 2 weeks, and live with students' families there. The students will interact and share their cultures, life styles, traditional food, put up exhibitions, cultural programs etc. The host students in State 2 will pay similar visit to State 1, living with the family of whom they hosted.

Dear PM, the ek bharat concept is good idea, but Both states should conduct activities in the same year instead of next year. example: in 2016, in harayana in january, march, may, july, sept, nov, popularizing activities about tamil nadu should be done, in the same year 2016 in tamil nadu in Feb, april, june, aug, oct, dec months popularising about harayana should me done... so that in same year in both states popularising will be done and it will increase cultural bonding between states.

To promote each and every state culture, we require some basic knowledge of them. Indian culture must be made a compulsory subject in class 10 in all boards so that students gather good knowledge. Inter-State relations must be healthy to organise, promote and share each others culture. Central Ministry must help any state in problems. There must be exchange programs between different states where the weakest must also get opportunity to feel culture of other states.

Unity in diversity is a concept of "unity without uniformity and diversity without fragmentation" that shifts focus from unity based on a mere tolerance of physical, cultural, linguistic, social, religious, political, ideological and/or psychological differences towards a more complex unity based on an understanding that difference enriches human interactions. #EKBharatShreshthaBharat, #RashtriyaEktaDivas, #MyGov
