As most of our farmers are rain dependent, we should develop an app for all our farmers which would keep them posted on upcoming rains. In many places we end up losing our crop due to unexpected rain or lack of it, we should keep the farmer informed about this so that they can plan for any preventive actions.

Take inputs from current phone farmer helplines to create an app with topics and sub topics in various languages. With internet every farmer should be able to use the app and get as much informationa s possible with the app. The app can be improved from time to time based on suggestions and feed backs. This will avoid farmers waiting on calls and also reduce the load on call center executives.

Develop “practical” and “indianized” ways to make internet technologies accessible to farmers in villages. It is not reasonable to expect that farmers would access internet. If there is a way to hire intermediaries who can communicate this information, it will be more affective.

Allow farmers to come together and form farming clusters. Agriculture specific information and advice can then be disseminated to a cluster, which is more economical.

Allow daily rates of produce to be available online. So the farmer knows how much money he would get before he travels to the mandi to auction his produce. Right now farmers are at the mercy of middlemen, they are forced to take whatever is offered to them on the spot.
